Rustic Country

Old furniture, rescued and repainted. Wrought iron, wagon wheels, cactus and crockery. Open Tuesday to Saturday in Port Kennedy — come in out of the rain and have a look around.

The shop

Nothing here is new

Everything in here has had a life already — a dresser that held someone's linen for forty years, a table with three generations of dents in it, chairs that were sitting in a shed until last month.

They come in tired. They get repaired where they need it and repainted by hand, in colours picked for that piece: chalky blue, deep green, camel, turquoise. The marks worth keeping stay. The ones that just look sad don't.

The look is heading somewhere warmer — a bit of San Antonio, a bit of old Mexico. Yellow walls, turquoise ironwork, red, cactus green, weathered timber and rusted tin. It's not all the way there yet, and half the fun is watching it change.

Stock turns over constantly, so it's always worth another look. If you're chasing something in particular, tell us and we'll keep an eye out.

Prices run from a few dollars for a bit of crockery up to a few hundred for a big restored piece. Everything's tagged. If it's not, ask.

Bring us a piece

Something of your grandmother's that's seen better days? Bring it in and we'll tell you honestly what it needs and what it'd cost.

Repairs & repaints

Wobbly legs, split timber, sticking drawers, missing handles. Most of it's fixable — and fixing beats throwing out.
